On Tuesday, 18 November, West African Football Academy SC reached an important milestone with the official inauguration of our new artificial pitch.

The day also marked the opening of our annual two-day Under-19 tournament, organised together with Tier One Agency from England.

A special moment came when Friso Maats performed the ceremonial kick-off. As the grandson of Henri Wientjes, our late owner, his presence gave the inauguration a sense of continuity and legacy.

With this new state-of-the-art pitch, WAFA enters a new chapter in supporting the development of young players who aspire to reach the highest levels of the game. The tournament drew many European scouts who travelled to Sogakope to observe the six participating Ghanaian academies.

Delegations from clubs such as Malmö FF, AFC Bournemouth, AC Horsens, Rukh Lviv and FC Lorient spent two days assessing the emerging talent on display.

The West African Football Academy SC ultimately won the tournament. Evans Adeti (WAFA) was named Player of the Tournament, adding to an already impressive season in which he has been selected four times as Man of the Match in Ghana’s First Division. Constance Adika (WAFA) and Abdul Bashiru Hussein (Shooting Stars) shared the Golden Boot with four goals each.

Several of our players have since received invitations for trials from attending clubs, which speaks to the level of performance shown across the event. It was a rewarding tournament for everyone involved, from clubs and scouts to agents and coaches.

Above all, it gave the players a platform to demonstrate that African football continues to produce remarkable talent. At WAFA, we are proud to play our part in that journey and delighted to do so on what may well be one of the finest pitches in Ghana.
